Overall reflection

“Lend your ears to music. Open your eyes to painting, and … stop thinking” Wassily Kandinsky.

Kandinsky’s say summarised my 12 weeks of work well. Through interactive works and artworks. It is more important to enjoy the experience without any task-oriented effort. Their response in the play at the moment matters as Katie and Eric (2004) mentioned that interactive is about two objects intertwining and responding within the system. After reviewing my past 12 weeks of works, I realised that I am interested in interactive play through sound. Most likely, my work studies the interpretation of sound and objects through experimental and interactive work.

The question is what is used to define an object?

Sound? Physical Forms? Vibration? Pitch? Related memories? Stereotype?

Can they be used as the materials for play design?  Or how they can be experienced?

It all comes to our sensation.

In Play and Object, the limitation on our rigid or normal interpretation of objects is explored through senses of hearing and touching.

In play and Forces. Feedbacks of sound, which implies echo, of daily noises have been experimented to project a soundtrack of sound as a new form of feedback.

In Play and Sound, sight is the sense used to experience sound in a visual form that blends colour, vibration, and transformation. The geometric patterns and waves could be used to present songs without literally playing them.

In Play and Abstraction, notes of music have been transformed into symbols of a painting to interpret sound through visual impact.

In Play and Body, shadows are the object to be tested and edited as another life form.

In Play and Nature, new interpretations are given to leaves through stop-motion animation.

By interpreting new forms of sound or objects, viewers and participants can experience the new meaning of objects.

Other than objects, it is realised that some work also studies self-realisation. A strong message of social connection has been projected through play and time, places, and stillness. It is noticed that communication has been weakened nowadays even though the online social platform is well developed. The purpose of communication has been shifted to task-oriented and object-matters. Play and time have been trying to break a social brutal or connection malfunction with the spreadsheet. Takes time to build friendship or relationship. Slowing down the pace to take time on connecting the community. Afterall, the present matters (Marina Abramovic (2010)).

Enjoying our present and the actual time is a subject to be studied in APD. Play and places where participants become part of the site-specificness through reflections on the devices. It is presenting another interactive platform for us to know more about the places. A sense of attachment could be introduced through the play.

Last but not least, after all the sensory interactive play, the process has led us to self-realisation. When was the last time we stop judging our reflections?

Taking time to interact with yourself is the core of the work in Play and Self. Try to exaggerate your pimples, scares or things that could lower your self-esteem. It is not as bad as you think.

Although some responses are not as good as expected, progress has shown on scaling and conceptualising the ideas. It is wished that those interactive plays could be expanded and explored much better in the coming future. Especially for the Play and stillness project, I am interested in building connections through that stillness of play. giving and experiencing non-constructive responses is important sometimes. After all,

“Play can be understood as a project of self-realisation, a project humans share with other creatures who play” Thomas S. Henricks (2007, p190)

Sharing my ideas and creativity interactively and experientially of showreel is to promote the importance of the present without any thinking!

Interact with your inner-self.
