Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

This week, I have worked on a basic cut for my studio animation. This is not the final cut yet. This still requires some better renders, changes and addition of more scenes in the end. This is the animation I have done so far. This week, I have also worked on one basic draft of my abstract.

As I am working on my inquiry and abstract, I am beginning to discover that my inquiry sits in the direction of technology as a double edged sword.

This is the first version of the inquiry and the abstract that I have written:

Inquiry: Exploring technology as a double edged sword through an animation

Abstract:

‘It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity’ as wisely said by Albert Einstein, has become the veracity of today’s world. Inspired by the works of Victor Maldonado and Alfredo Torres, in ‘Love, Death and Robots’ where the robots are shown in a post-apocalyptic world, trying to understand humans, I have worked on an animation.

While embracing a practice-based research method in order to complete this project, I came across multiple animated works which are social commentary projects about mechanisation, the ones that have used robots to explain automation and the ones that used them both to provide a single perspective, either a positive or a negative one. I have created this animation to explore the possibility of a machine being more empathetic and understanding towards a human, than the human themselves and another one being completely ruthless towards the individual. This project aims to depict the multifaceted attributes of mechanics.

In order to explore my inquiry, I worked on an animation and a scenario where, a scientist gets rejected by technology and accepted by technology, irrespective of his own nature. FC2100 (Future City 2100) is a 3d animation work set in a futuristic world, which tries to explore the feelings of a robot through an animation and its relationship with its owner. This animation also tries to explore, how technology is a double edged sword is both a boon and a curse, and thus is a work of social commentary that attempts to portray the inquiry.

This through this project I have worked to depict a scenario that translates human feelings into visual elements through a medium of a robot and explore how technology is a coin having two sides.
