This week I looked at 3d games and their gameplay along with some animated works. I also read about various such pre-existing works in the field and researched about them. Some of them are included below.
I. ASSAULT CUBE
1. Assault Cube is also known as action cube. This is an open source game (freeware) and is a shooter video game. This game is available to be run on various platforms such as Windows, Linux and Mac.
2. Assault cube can be played in a multiplayer format online or as a single player format on the computer using robots. This game has two different teams, Cuber’s Liberation Army (CLA) and Rabid Viper Special Forces (RVSF). Some features and bugs which were present in the original game, Cube are also present in this version, Assault Cube. These bugs and features are deliberately left in by the creators because they are thought to be liked by the players and audiences. It allows players to play with fictional weapons.
3. This game can be played in 14 different modes and it also consists of a level editor which allows a player to do modifications in the game. This is a good example of a classic shooter game and has remained very popular among people. This game is a great game on the basis of the features that have been added to it and the modifications that have been done.
II. PURL (2018)
1. Purl is an American short film released in 2018 by Pixar Animation studios. It was written and directed by Kristen Lester. It is the story of an animated woollen yarn which gets employed in a company dominated by humans.
2. In this short piece of animation, purl is a pink-coloured woollen yarn ball who starts doing a job in a company named B.R.O Capital. In this short film, purl being a ball of yarn, is ignored by the humans in their company. In order to fit in and become one of them, Purl tries very hard and tries to become and even look like the people working in the company. When they finally accept Purl, she gets to know another yellow-coloured woollen ball has started working in the company too. She befriends the ball and the two become great friends. The movie is also hilarious because of the sound design and the way the movie has been narrated and presented to the audience.
3. This animated short film is a great example of 3d animation. It portrays the possibilities that a 3d animator can achieve. It is often very hilarious and engaging to see the woollen ball being in an office atmosphere and trying to adapt to it by trying to look like one of them. It thus depicts a new concept and theme.
III. THE STANLEY PARABLE
1. The Stanley Parable is an interactive walking simulator designed in America. It was developed and released by Davey Wreden. It was released on 27 July, 2011. Eventually, over the years, the game was also released across various platforms such as Windows, OS X and Linux.
2. This game is a walking simulator which means there is no live action, fight or combat required in the game. The game simply functions as the protagonist, named Stanley keeps walking along the path and receives instructions from the narrator about what to do. The player is free to make his own choices or to obey the narrator. Whatever choice the player makes, has its own outcome. This game is a first person game. In the game the player does not have much control except for interaction with the objects around.
3. This game has won praise from many critics around the world and has been awarded too. Many critics are impressed with the narration of the game and the gameplay. This game does not come with many instructions and allows the player to make his own choices and decide.
