Animated Narratives - Week3

The topic of this week is External Manifestations of the Internal State. We learned a lot about character design this week. We've seen the character's contribution to the story and the variations of storytelling. When designing the character, his appearance can tell the viewer a lot about the character. For example, if we see that the character is heavier than the others, we can say that he likes to eat more.

Based on what I learned in this lesson, I used the premiese that I came up with, "The wolf turns into a human on every full moon night". In my story, the wolf turns into a human at every full moon. And every time there is a full moon, he goes to the city wondering about people's lives. Since this has happened to him since he was born, he has friends in the city. As time passes, he has a wife and children. They think that he is a ship captain because he cannot explain this situation to them. At the same time, he has a family of his own among the wolves, and he is torn between two families. He doesn't know whether he likes being human or being a wolf more. Being torn between these two families is making it worse day by day.Somehow this wolf has to decide what he wants and move on that way.

 Even though the story is not the same, the "Swimming pool" animation really impressed me. It was quite nice that the two "creatures" who made their choices to stay away from humans because they were different from everyone else somehow found each other and how to be happy. Especially when the animation is over, the meaning of what they did becomes clearer and this was quite successful.

After watching the Swimming Pool animation, I got a real grasp of something that is really important in storytelling. It was a very successful narrative that the characters did not show their gold throughout the story. Not revealing everything in the story can make it much better.In addition, I realized how important the designs of the characters and even their point of view are for storytelling. I definitely want to make a game using it.
