Animated Narratives - Week 9

In this week’s class, we talk about the theme of time. The premise I developed is A man finds the city empty after coming out of a subway station.

Bullet point:

• A man walks into the subway station tiredly after working overtime, waiting for the last train
• The subway is coming, the man walks into an empty car
• Subway starts, the man sits in a chair
• During the journey, the lights on the subway failed, and for a while, the man sat in complete darkness
• Fortunately, the subway still arrived at the station smoothly
• When the man walks out of the subway station, he finds the usually busy street empty
• He also found that the buildings in the city were much more dilapidated than what he saw in the morning.
• At this time, the newspaper on the ground caught his attention, because the year on it said 2050

This story is examined the theme of time. By expanding the premise, I show time as the main element to create an animation story. The story is about a man commuting by subway, and the subway in this story is like a time machine, it brings the man to the future.

A similar work is Baths, directed by Tomek Ducki. It depicts a story about Two elderly swimmers meeting at the baths for their ritual swimming and this time they are diving deeper than usual.
