Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

With this week's theme being Time, I thought it would be appropriate to start writing my short film script and think about how I can utilise what was discussed in class to enhance the overall idea.

Breaking up the story into seemingly disconnected moments in time allowed me to convey its message in a more effective and surprising way than I originally intended, without the use of dialogue or heavy-handed commentary to do so.

A similar non-verbal short and a touch stone for me throughout the writing process is The Separation (2003) by Robert Morgan, a stop-motion film with a very strong and clear message that conveys the passage of time in effective visual ways.

I had come up with the idea for this short five years ago when studying Stop-Motion here at RMIT; the idea was pretty basic and I was going to make it on the fly because I had no time to write it, but never got around to it. Having learnt a lot since then, this attempt to capture it pushed me to build the idea into something much more strange and visually arresting, while clarifying my commentary upon the destructive nature of living in blind service of a system that requires you, but does not care about you (i.e. Capitalism).
