I’m interested in exploring how medieval tapestries and characters could be reimagined in animation. I’d like to explore the way motion could play with the expectations of these characters and scenes, whilst still emulating the style.

Animating in this style allows for these medieval scenes to meet with a modern art form, and this immediate contrast in medium will emphasise the juxtapositions in story content that I may explore.

The visual concept of this work primarily bares resemblance to The Unicorn Tapestries, but this idea of playing with history and anachronisms is thoroughly examined in Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975). There is also room for this to take comedic inspiration in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales.

At the moment, my main goal is to create a linear narrative from this concept. I have found that the visual and character aspects have come to this concept very easily, but I need to make decisions about the story I want to communicate within the scope of this project.
