This week we were to capture the internal aspects of character through their visual representation using a chosen line of overheard dialogue as a springboard.
I chose an exaggerated, absurdist style for my character to increase the absurdity of my line of dialogue and so that his appearance would raise more questions about it than it answered, while still providing a sense of a larger scene and of his personality.
This style is reminiscent of the old LucasArts adventure games, such as The Day of the Tentacle and Monkey Island series, and character designs by Gary Winnick, that saw a lot of exaggerated character information condensed into a small amount of screen space.
This time around I wanted to do something I rarely do to challenge myself, so rather than continuing my more grounded and compressed work, I chose a larger pixel count and went with something more colourful. It is definitely weaker, but I want to continue to go out of my comfort zone to push myself further and improve overall.
