This work‘s practice is about ‘stealing’ a dialogue from people around or daily life and think about how you can create a story from it. Our group chooses the one which is “Your definition of ‘hee hee’ is not everyone else’s definition of ‘hee hee'. Your definition of ‘hee hee’ is everyone else’s definition of ‘oh my f***ing god’ .” - My friend, to me over voicechat – Oneeb. We made a mafia story which has two characters, character A just fails a very important mission but still not realize it is a big mistake. Another character just came into the bar and ask A about the mission details, and A said ‘hee hee, then B said the sentence above. It is actually a really interesting way to think about stories. So I just did another practice myself.
By collecting random dialogues that happened around me in the past few days, I got a list of dialogues. By using the ‘dialogue driving method’ I start to think about what are the possibilities behind and between them.
A similar idea was shown in the movie ‘ 12 Angry men’ directed by Sidney Lumet. The whole movie was driven by a debate between 12 members of the jury.
I just found out that a dialogue-driven story can have a lot more detailing discussion than others, because dialogue contains much more information and details
