The topic of this week is structures for story telling. We looked at the two formal structures that shape the story. These are 3 stage model and heroes journey. Although both are frequently used, we also looked at heroes journey examples in the lesson. In the video we watched, a sampling of heroes journey was given through Toy Story. In the video we watched, they were showing the heroes journey used in Toy Story together with their scenes.
Based on what I learned in this lesson, I used the premiese(story) that I came up with, "Samurai swears never to kill, His sword comes to life and starts killing everyone and Samurai leaves the country ". In the story, there is a Samurai who has been killing people for his country for a very long time. When he is asked to kill one of the people he loves, he completes his mission, but then swears that he will never kill anyone again. His sword then comes to life at night and continues to kill people instead. After a while, he realizes that he is the one in control of the sword and decides that the best thing he can do is to leave the country. He meets someone who tells him about his strange situation, and then tries to get out of this situation by doing what he says. At the end of his adventure, he unties this bond with the sword and leaves the country. But the pain and souls of the people he killed will always be after him.
Good Intentions animation was much more open-ended than other animations. I think the girl's death could have been a little more obvious. It was as if she was in purgatory, wanting to complete a task that needed to be done before moving on to the next world. Even in the classroom there were discussions about whether the girl was dead or not. In general, it was an animation that was left to the interpretation of the audience. Everyone evaluates this animation as they understand it. Apart from that, the graphics and details were very good. I really liked the style of the animation.
The best thing I learned after watching the Good Intentions animation was the attention to detail when creating an animation or game scene. Even if the animation didn't tell a story, the visual details in every scene would definitely impress the audience. In addition, I have seen the effect of the visual style used for animation. If it had been done in a different style, it might not have had this effect. Besides, it was also nice to see Heroes Journey through Toy Story scenes. It was a very explanatory video about Heroes Journey. I can make the story of the games I will create more enjoyable by using heroes journey. I tried to use Heroes Journey in my story this week, that video definitely helped me.
