Story: An older man opened a candy store, and all the candies were made from sweet dreams. He sold the candy to children at a low price. After eating the candy, Children could go through this sweet dream at night. But one day, a thief stole all the candy from the store. When the thief got home, he ate one candy and enjoyed an unparalleled dream. However, he felt unfulfilled after the dream. So he kept eating candies to enter the dream repeatedly. But gradually, the scene in the dream began to distort, which turned into a terrible nightmare, as if countless pairs of black hands dragged him into the abyss. He struggled in the dream for a long time and finally woke up. He panted and looked at the candies left on the table. In the end, he dragged his exhausted body and returned all the leftover candies to the older man's store.
This work examines the idea of Structures for Storytelling. In the premise exercise, I wrote three bullet points:
1. An older man could make sweet dreams into candies and share them with children.
2. A thief stole all the candies.
3. The thief returned the candies with heavy dark circles under his eyes.
I continued developing the story, which clearly shows the turning point and details, making the story's narrative structure more complete. And I also drew a storyboard to show some keyframes. This story intends that beautiful thing are always addictive, but everything should be in moderation.
Similar work is "Nuggets," produced by Studio Film Bilder in Germany (https://youtu.be/HUngLgGRJpo). This story is about a wingless bird constantly sucking a gold nugget. Sucking the nuggets made him feel like flying, and he became obsessed with it. Gradually he became ugly and exhausted. However, he couldn't stop sucking the nuggets until the end of his life. This story shows that people need to control their greed and desire. Otherwise, they may cause enormous physical and psychological harm to them.
Through this week's practice, I have gained a better understanding of story structure and the use of plot twists to make the story more interesting. In addition, studying step by step over the past few weeks has broadened my mind and allowed me to become more proficient at creating a story.
