This week we explored the external representation of internal states when designing a character. Once again, by asking the right questions such as what does the character want? What does it do? When/how does the audience learn more about the characters? etc we are able to flesh out an interesting character in an interesting premise.
I worked on one of the premises I posted for this week: A suicidal fish tries to get hooked by a fishing rod on purpose. I brainstormed using a mind map and came up with a lot of ideas, but I eventually went with the story of a Detective Fish who is investigating the “disappearance” of all the other fish.
This work could be a satire on detective movies and suspense thrillers. I think the medium of animation has a lot of possibilities for metaphor, symbolism and allegory, and can be a great way to do parodies on popular genres and tropes.
