Week 3
This week, I have worked on the premise, “The book under the bed turned out to be possessed”
THEME
This work examines the idea of depicting hidden fears. This week I have worked on this premise as an ending point of the story. I created the story backwards from this premise. This theme deals with the concept of dark spaces and the fears associated with it. For instance, Fear of the dark space under the bed which always makes us think that there are monsters underneath!!
MEDIUM
To explore the theme, I have created a mind map, a flowchart and a detailed plot of the story. To depict and convey my ideas clearly to the reader/viewer, I went with the basic pen-paper as I personally believe pen paper conveys the most to the viewer or onlooker. I also used photoshop for a slide to type in my whole storyline. The whole storyline that is present in my files promotes a visual understanding of the story while reading it.
REFERENCES
Before creating my work, I did research on various people working on similar concepts in order to shape my own ideas. Before creating my base for doing the work, I got deeply inspired by an Indian movie, “Bhoothnath” which was released in the year 2008. It is a combination of horror, comedy and drama genres. This movie also deals with a ghost but in a comical way and in the end the ghost is forced to leave by performing some prayers. Also I came across a kid’s book called “Monster Under My bed”. The title of this book coupled with the inspiration from the movie helped me come up with the work I have created.
IMPACT OF PRACTICE, RESEARCH, FEEDBACK AND REFLECTION
I had discussed this concept with my peers to seek their feedback and they were very appreciative about it. Also, I had to change my plot multiple times in order to come up with a final suspense and twist in the story in order to enhance the viewer engagement. At some points, I was dis-satisfied with my story as it did not turn out to be very interesting. Then after rephrasing it and tweaking some points of it led me to create a final story. Research upon the movies and books also helped me develop this concept.
