Animated narratives Week 2 Reflection

Week 2 Semester 1

• Story about scissors and paper (conflict)
• This work examines ideas: fated to be evil and searching for possibility to change.

For week two I created a mind map for my story about scissors and also I started process of character design. I created some sketches with scissors (main character) and paper (victim character).

Who the story:

Characters: scissors, parer, stationary police (ruler and stapler), knife, hole puncher, ruler-policewoman

Desk - environment

What they want:

Scissors wants to stop cutting the paper and the fabric, but it can not

Paper and fabric - victims, desire to prevent and stop those criminal cruelty actions of the scissors 

Stationary police - want to catch and in prison scissors 

-What’s in the way (obstacle):

Scissors running and hiding in apartments of characters who understand its problem: knife, hole puncher

-How is the goal achieved/ not achieved?

Scissors were caught by police. But police-woman saw good side of scissors character, she understood that he was suffering and she wanted to help him. In prison she taught him how to make beautiful shapes from the paper. Scissors realised that he was able to stop being violent and can make paper happy by creating beautiful forms from it. Scissors were released prematurely from prison, he married ruler-policewoman and launched a cutting paper salon. Queues of paper were waiting for him every day turn into unusual incredible forms.

-How does the concept resolves?

Often people are cruel because of lack of love and they don't know how to deal with their negative emotions. But there is always a chance to find and grow good features in yourself, turn disadvantages into advantages. And often its connected with finding love, person who bring out all good in you. 

This end of the story visually closed to the film of Tim Burton "Edward Scissorhands', where the character with scissorhands actually is not evil, he trimming hedges into toparies, progressing to glooming dogs and styling the hair of neighbourhood woman.
