Week 2 Reflection

For this week’s work, I created a flow chart with the theme of  ‘What if?’ in mind. These are the several premises I thought of:

- A hero always destroys cabbages when he is fighting the enemy (Reference to Avatar the Last Airbender TV Show).

- We no longer have fingers

- Humans can teleport at last.

From these premises, the third one “Humans can teleport at last” was the most intriguing.

I created a mindmap for this week’s premise as shown in Fig.1 below. It takes about the pros and cons of humans having the power to teleport. The mindmap is sectioned off into two parts as for many discussions/questions, there are always advantages for it and disadvantages for it.

This video of Dr Michio Kaku (Big Think, 2011), is a Theoretical Physicist whom I have seen on the Discovery Science channel. He talks about how it’s possible to teleport photons, particles of light and atoms. But with further advancement, human teleportation could become a thing but that is very far into the future. This does raise ethical questions as initially, you have to destroy the atoms in your body so technically, you have to die and then be reborn in another location. Plus, there could be trust issues as people might think that the new person could be an imposter and that the original person is dead. There are also other concerns about teleportation such as privacy issues and humans getting lazy which are explained in (Life Noggin, 2018) and (It's AumSum Time).

Initially, I was looking forward to a teleportation device. But upon doing more research, I did for this week, in my opinion, I don’t want a teleportation device to be ever created. The disadvantages outweigh the advantages by a big margin and the main point that Dr Michio Kaku raises is a concerning question. We might think that the new person who got created could not be the same as the original person that was initially teleported.
