Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

This week I focused on concepts around creativity and many of the struggles associated with creating new work. I created a mind map with the prompt ‘creative restlessness’ and explored what this means to me and how I could express these ideas through animation.

A lot of the ideas I came up with lean strongly into metaphor or exaggerated proportions, relying on striking imagery and movement to convey the associated feelings. Through imagery I can concisely convey abstract feelings in a way that is easy to understand while being dynamic and interesting to see unfold. As an example, the stretched out character can convey the feeling of over extending yourself in quite a literal and playful manner.

AHEAD by Ala Nunu https://vimeo.com/524837064 takes full advantage of colour, composition and design to fill every sequence with dramatic imagery that not only conveys a mood but also adds a lot of visual interest.

Originally, I worried I had backed myself into a corner by prompting my mind map with such an abstract concept. However, as I began to map outwards, the ideas really started flowing. This afforded me a lot of wiggle room and resulted in a lot of varied ideas that don’t feel derivative of one another.
