This work examines ideas of a pair of abandoned running shoes who want to attend a race competition to prove themselves. By using mind maps, new ideas came up in both vertical and radical ways. I also developed one of those ideas I liked the most. This protagonist is similar to Doc Hudson in Pixar film Cars (2006)[1], who retired from the Piston Cup championship race by an unpredictable career-ending crash. By reading Linda Aronson on Creativity and Problem Solving(2001)[2]. I realized the creative and effective ways of writing for any media and audience. There are two kinds of thinking: vertical and lateral.
However, while vertical thinking will always pull towards Shaky cliché, Over-reliance on Lateral thinking makes the writing pull towards the unfocused and overly emotional. The better way is to use both methods iteratively and remedy them, which will achieve a real and unusual plot. Thinking through this, I decided to apply lateral thinking such as brainstorming for the second step and iterate this operation when I could not make up any fresh ideas. In addition to this narrative about running shoes, I gave it a final vertical thinking examination which made it looks more reasonable and fun.
