Reflective Text

This work examines the idea of shot framing and negative space.

By using still shots, I was able to explore the placement and position of my characters against their background and explore negative space throughout my work.

This work is similar to the work of Sholto Crow, Martin (2017), a short 2d animation that follows a man called Martin who discovers apocalyptic robots with his metal detector. Throughout the work the main character is scaled to juxtapose the background, in some shots he looks larger than life, in others he looks very small. Martin is also often set on a blank colour background, making the character pop.

By examining shot framing and negative space, I reflected on the importance of where objects sit within the frame. I also gained a stronger understanding of how the way a character is shot, including the angle and perspective, can add to the narrative and understanding of the characters personality traits as well as the importance of specific objects within the work.
