ANIMATED NARRATIVES - WEEK 1 *REPOST*

Week 1

I am reposting this work to the MAGI site to improve and enhance the annotation.

This week, I worked on the premise, "A living wax figure trying to maintain its shape during a city heatwave". Here is the intention behind my work:

            THEME

This work examines the idea of relating an outstanding character (Simon), a dynamic action (trying to maintain its shape) and an interactive location (In a city heatwave). To respond to this week’s idea of relating a character, action and location, I imagined and created a character which is a living wax figure struggling hard to keep its shape during a city heatwave. This character and the situation it is in is both hilarious and pitiable.

MEDIUM

To explore the theme, I have created a flow chart, a mind map and a short treatment. My work depicts the hardships faced by the character with the help of its storyline and the imaginary world it transports the reader to and the engagement that is established with the reader.

REFERENCE

This work is similar to that of artist Edward Munich who created the painting “The Scream” in the year 1893. I have drawn my inspiration of this work from that painting. The painting portrays a human figure screaming and panicking and a hot summer day. The lines move the eyes of the viewer in waves. Similarly, I tried to extract and learn from that painting to draw the concept of the wax figure  trying to maintain its shape and remain collected during a city heatwave while the onlookers are watching it melt.

IMPACT OF PRACTICE, RESEARCH, FEEDBACK AND REFLECTION

By getting feedback from my friends in the class about the idea I want to implement this week and by researching about my final work was shaped the way it is now. After suggestions, feedback and research, I developed a deeper understanding of what the possibilities of the theme can be and the directions where I should shape my work to.
