In this week we need to design a story and focus on a character, location and an interaction. In that foundation, i focus on the hypothesis that what if a fight-less bird found a big biscuit in the park. This work examines ideas of an funny animal character design.
Before to start design, I list some questions such as How will it protect it when other pets in the park try to snatch the biscuit and what can it makes a simple and funny story? As my focus is on the character design, it is harder to show why the bird can not fly. Based on that, I give the short wings very large gaps, and the body of the bird is fat and round.
This character design inspiration by ostrich and peacock. I start with a round shape first and to do more changes with it. To prominent the cute and dumb, the bird had no slender neck.
As the design positioning is a funny character, I mainly use contrast colour in order to make the character looks more ridiculous which looks like a unreal animal who doesn’t really exist in the earth.
I also draw a few actions by the flightless-bird to show how it protect the biscuit. However, I identify it is a challenge to display the environment or location during the character design.
Because of the wrong timetable, I didn’t attend this class and did it by recording.
The software I used: Photo shop & Procreate.
