Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

This work examines the idea of plot and narration. I am using last week’s premise and illustration of a teddy bear who is thrown away in an eerie forest and gained a life to do a revenge on its previous owners to be developed into an interesting story plot. By using knowledge hierarchy and re-arranging all the events that happened, I was able to create a more engaging story through suspense and mystery. After the story is made upon iteration processes through mind maps, I create the chronological order of the events and assign them with numbers. Then I rearrange the sequence to experiment with the way the conflict is built, range and depth. By doing this, I was able to see how different the feel of the story differs from one another. Taking from Christopher Booker’s book of The Seven Basic Plots, it explains how stories often have the basic plots, and if viewers are failed to see clearly what the basic plot of the story is, then the story needs work. I perceive it as it is important to have a clear plot, otherwise the story is not communicated properly. This is also why I was experimenting with the sequence of the story, as it can make the story more interesting, which in my case is through suspense. Additionally, inspired from Chuck Jones’ The Evolution of an Artist, specifically in the application of discipline and restriction towards the characters which the story is built upon, I think it would be interesting if the teddy bear character in my story becomes alive only if it feels rage, anger or disappointment. The ending for the story would be more meaningful, as there is a possibility for the teen to reflect better. The teen regrets the fact that the time when the teddy bear is alive is spent on fighting with each other. Furthermore, this gives the teen a chance to understand and be more careful in regulating emotions independently, by herself, rather than if the teddy bear stays alive and constantly giving reminders.
