Animated Narratives Week 1, Sem 1, 2022

This work explores the elements that make up a story and the strength of animation. Through these story thumbnails, I am showing how a story is a series of (chronological) events that creates cause and effect which happens to the character(s) in certain place/location(s), and is driven by action/intention, obstacle, and resolution. This story about a grey squirrel trying to fly like a flying squirrel using a leaf parachute demonstrates how animation can justify and present an imaginative world and carry life metaphors conveniently. This work is similar to Wind by Robert Lobel (2013) which presents an imaginative world with unconventional practices compared to real-life world. Also, humanized animal characters are widely used in stories, for example, The Aristocats by Disney (1970). By understanding the strengths of animation, I learned that there are limitless possibilities in the creation of stories and animation, which allow creators to flexibly interpret and express ideas.
