Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

This week in class we discussed time, and how time was projected within a piece of work. After having a feedback session with my groupmates, I decided that I would be going forward with idea 1, which was the idea for the animation. For this week, I did a sketch on different periods of the day with the slime.

This work examines the idea of using the location of shadow to show time. By using the different shadow’s location, I was able to show the movement of time without really showing a clock / time. By doing so, it makes the movement of time shown in a more subtle way. According to Gideon(2003), this concept of time is considered as ellipsis, where time leaps over a period of time. The animation “The girl that leapt through time” where the main character has the ability to transport into different time dimensions and freeze time to change the future. This was one movie that made good use of the theme of time.

By using shadows, I would also like to portray more about the characteristics of the slime as well. As Plotr(2017) once said, “shadow can sometimes be perceived as having a substance and life of its own, independent of its owner”. As the slime did not have any friends within the animation, I would feel like the shadow would be able to act as it’s “imaginary friend” to aid in the expansion of the story.
