Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

This week I focus on detailing my idea for assignment 2. From my last week’s idea, I planned to expand more on the idea’s script. The base idea for both of the ideas were similar, only some contents would be different.

This week I tried to showcase my ideas from the mindmaps through scripting. By placing out the ideas using script treatments, I was able to visualize my idea more clearly. Sonu(2015) recommended that a well-written film script is a channel for scriptwriters to create epiphanies at will. For example, Toy Story’s director made good use of scripts to be able to produce a great story afterwards. By reading through the Toy Story’s scripts, I found that by focusing on scriptwriting, It made my idea more clear and also helped in simplifying the process of pitching ideas to my coursemates.

Colours in life

Idea (1) :

SYNOPSIS: An animated short about a slime that gains colour as it learns about human emotions, the more the user interacts with the slime, the faster it grows.

SETTING: A website / a desktop application

CHARACTER: A blob of slime that hatches from an egg when the user first touches it, resembles a human silhouette.

THEME: Growth / emotion

FORMAT: Digital animation

 PERSPECTIVE: 3rd PERSON POV

TREATMENT: Story

We opened up a website (imagine an .io website) with an egg in the middle. We named the egg and by clicking in the egg, it hatches the egg. A slime came out of the egg, which is the main character of this animation. By interacting with the slime and the surrounding items, the slime starts to grow up.

Gaining colours:

Yellow : by playing with the slime

Blue : leaving the slime for alone for quite a while, the slime will feel lonely and a bit down

Red : When the slime was playing with it’s favourite item/toy, we tried to snatch it away from it, causing it feel angry

(Would include more emotions/colors)

We started to feel bored with the game. As the mouse hovers on the exit button, the slime’s worlds turn grey again. If we move the mouse away from the exit button, it goes back to the colourful world. The story ended with the mouse hovering onto the button.

The website is black and white.

The scene has yellow

The scene has blue

The scene has blue colour

Immediate fade, leaving the viewers space to imagine the ending.

Idea (2) :

SYNOPSIS: An interactive website about a slime that gains colour as it learns about human emotions as the user interacts with it

SETTING: A website

CHARACTER: A blob of slime that hatches from an egg when the user first touches it, resembles a human silhouette.

THEME: Growth / emotion

FORMAT: Interactive website

 PERSPECTIVE: 3rd PERSON POV

TREATMENT:

We opened up a website (imagine an .io website) with an egg in the middle.

The egg hatches, a slime comes out of the egg. Different toys/objects appear surrounding the slime.

Gaining colours:

The slime learns about happiness.

The slime learns about loneliness.

The slime grows bigger. It learns about anger.

Ending :

a)The slime’s worlds turn grey again. It starts to become static as the game is being reseted.

b)The game continues as the slime keeps growing.

The website is black and white. There is a pop up where the user could name the character.

User clicked on the egg.

The user gives the slime attention and care by giving the slime different objects. The slime feels happy/ satiated.

User starts taking things away from the slime. By neglecting the slime for a few moments would enable the slime to feel down.

When the slime was eating, the user tried to snatch away its food.

  1. User feels bored, hover to exit the game

  2. The user continues to interact with it.
