Week 10 - Movement
In this week, we are focus on the theme of movement, it helps me having better understanding of camera and subjects, what is more, helping me to shape the idea while using camera languages to do the animation. I have chosen one of my premise exercises: “The warrior swung the sword in his hand, it sliced through the air in parallel, the air around him shaking up and down” to do the further improvement.
This premise looks very epic and grand right now, and Kate suggested that what if this could be turned on itself and become quite comic. I like this idea and I think the strong contrasts would make the whole story fuller and more vivid.
The final version of the story is:
The annual tournament is being held. This is the only opportunity of the year to show the king their superb fighting skills. All the warriors cherished this opportunity. The tournament officially began, the king was sitting on a high platform overlooking the entire ground. Finally, it was the warrior's turn, he gripped the sword in his hand and walked towards the center with heavy steps. He took a deep breath, pointed the toes and clenched the buttocks. He swung the sword in his hand, it sliced through the air in parallel, the air around him shaking up and down. When he swung his sword again, it brought a powerful stream of air. The gust of wind was fast and sharp, heading straight to the king. Instantly, it cut the king's gown to pieces. The poor warrior didn’t know what happened and was still gloating about his skill, but unexpectedly, the king became angry and ordered him to be arrested and pressed into the dungeon.
During this week, I am not only improved the story, but also tried to use the knowledge of camera view, to make some attempts in animation. First of all, these three pics, I wanna try to use different angles and positions of the character to show a dynamic moving process. After this I was thinking how to show that the blade is cutting through the actual air, then I tried to visualize the air, give it color and shapes, let audience see more clearly the process of warrior swinging his sword, while using visualization of the wind to show his great skill.
