Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

For week three, I created a more thorough character design for my studio 1 project by listing out different character qualities and its wants and obstacles. This work examines how a character could be fleshed out by setting up the struggles and traits.

By using this tool, I am able to develop and consolidate my scattered ideas about my character. It’s an useful and iterative approach to design the character from basic components, such as its physiques, interests, etc. Each components might affect each other and tremendously help the process in visualization.

This work is similar to the work of Tarsier Studios, Little Nightmares, which is a dark tale, the character Six, has to escape from the vessel where multiple monstrous beings living there. The character has to sneak her way out. The character represents the childhood nightmares, so she’s designed extra tiny comparing to the environment and monsters to represents the helplessness. This quality is something I want to apply on my design as well which my character represents people feeling lost about future, struggle between exploration into unknown but intriguing areas or following defined path.

By developing this character setting, I reflected that how I could insert my ideas or thoughts into a character design. Through externalizing these character traits, the audience will understand more about the character and the world that I created. And hopefully they could resonate with the idea.
