Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

This work examines the weekly topic ‘movement’. For this week, I wrote mind map about movement in character’s identity and role in animations.

Firstly, I wrote a quick mind map to explore the definition and relevant objects of movement, then I found the interesting point on animal’s movement likes snakes and cats. Snakes and cat motion are smooth, delicate, and precise, but also unpredictable and mysterious. I found that this style of motion has been applied in villain characters in animated films, for example, Ursula from the little mermaid (1989). In addition, motion style is a tool that the animators can use to tell the character identity and role without adding any extra detail on the character itself, for example, the silhouette characters in Catch Me If You Can (2002) title sequence.
