Title: Cats and Dogs against Humans.

Work: Storyboard.

This work examines ideas of the physical representation of sound using onomatopoeias. The chosen premise for this work is: What if dogs teamed up with cats against the humans?

Thanks to the representation of sound through onomatopoeias, I initially wanted to show a conflict or disagreement between the two characters due to the lack of a communication bridge between them. What I wanted to put into evidence with the graphic modification of the onomatopoeias, was to literally demonstrate the intention of each one: through their interlacing to show a tension, or the fact that they have a different font, which tries to make explicit the fact that they are speaking a different language.

This work is similar to that presented in the Japanese manga (whose onomatopoeias manifest not only sounds but also certain states – giongo and gitaigo). Their graphic representation tends to be different from onomatopoeias that use the Latin alphabet since the shape and fluency of the Japanese words can change depending on the state of a person, the dynamism of a scene or the strength or subtlety of a sound.
