Using photoshop and after effects, I have created a basic animatic to illustrate the town square scene of my virtual reality experience.
The exported QuickTime file was converted into a split screen using a HMD Converter so the user could view it using a mobile headset, much like the final version of the project I plan to make.
The section of the experience puts the user in a town square that disappears around the user as they move through the scene. The animatic has been designed to see if the act of dissapearing buildings that leave the user in an empty white scene induce feelings of isolation and lonliness in those who watch it.
In order to test this theory I showed this animatic to some friends and recieved the following feedback:
POSITIVES:
- The animatic communicated the idea of isolation due to the dissapearing buildings and white space
- Unexpected, catches the user off guard
-The empty and vast white space communicates the idea of isolation more effectively than a black screen
IMPROVEMENTS:
- Make the building's disaperance more gradual, i.e. fae
- Possibly have the buidlings appear white and then add colour into the scene to
create more impact
