For my minor project prototype, I decided to create a visual novel supported by interactive mechanics such as mouse hovering, clicking, and dragging.
For Folio 1 of this interactive game, my goal was to demonstrate the functionality and general pathway the game would take.
In terms of uncovering an inquiry, I keep coming back to the simple interactivity options of mouse movement, such as the parallax effect and mouse hovering. I enjoy seeing the movement of layers in relation to the mouse which creates a 2.5D effect and how simple hovering can bring out a sense of depth and life.
My project explores perception, and how a person’s experiences and memory shapes the way they see the world. The main character of my story; Ana, is desperate to meet a person she met years ago, who she believes is the key to uncovering her past but is simply the vessel of a traumatic memory that her fragile state of mind made up in order to protect her.
I think this is an important topic because there’s a lot of interesting technical ways to approach this concept. I’m especially interested in how the parallax effect could be used to show a shift in perception or a crack in reality.
