Abstract

The novel The Garden with Forking Paths is full of philosophy, which is different from general story novels. The experimental animation coincides with this abstract novel in this respect. There is no clear story and language, and only graphics and movement are used to show concepts. This research explores How to visualize the novel in form of experimental animation.

This animation called "The Garden with Forking Paths" visualizes this philosophical novel. Through experimental animation techniques, basic graphics, lines, rhythm, movement and sound are used to express the philosophical artistic conception in this novel, and the linear intention is transformed into a non-narrative picture. Finally, a little real garden element is added to echo the timeless utopia in the story.

This research can help animation practitioners explore more areas where animation can be applied. Unlike traditional animation, which tells stories or has clear elements, it can be used not only in the field of art, but also in many other fields. Then,the field of animation will attract more people's attention.
