Week 8
Melbourne City Center State Library Christmas Night Time Project
1. ‘Christmas Night Time Project’ is a projection mapping 3D animation project happening on the Melbourne City Center State Library in December 2019. It tells the story of the Christmas Elves preparing presents and the Santa Claus sending them out at Christmas Night to the people in Melbourne.
2. This project is created to spread happiness to people during Christmas. This work was showcased at a public space with free admission, providing a beautiful Christmas Illumination Light Show to the people in Melbourne. It uses bright colours, cute characters, and funny animation to ensure that whoever stops by to watch will receive the same happiness from them.
3. The design team utilises the structure of the building and plans the animation based on the architecture. For example, the front top of the building is like a stage for characters to speak to their audience and the rest of the building is used to be the projection mapping of object animation. This work shows us the potential of creating 3D animation using different canvas as this work uses architecture as the canvas in comparison to a normal screen in a movie theatre.

Fears
1. ‘Fears’ is a 2D animation short film that tells the story of a boy who has no fear of doing what he wants and learns the consequences of his action.
2. The theme of the project is about fear. It discusses whether this particular emotion is a friend or an enemy to human beings. The creator visualises ‘fear’ as a little black creature with white and hollow eyes that constantly stays on humans. By doing so, we can observe the pros and cons of having ‘fear’ on us.
3. This work shows us the potential of visualising human emotions in animation and sending out the message of ‘good fear is a good friend to human’ in cute character design and lighter mood through the medium.
