Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

This week I tried to focus on animating the character 'Anna' a.k.a.  'Goldfish Girl' in Live2D. It's a software I've been aware of for the longest time, but never tried using. I skimmed over a few tutorials and imported the PSD file of the character with her body parts in different layers.

Right away I noticed many things that had gone wrong;

  • Having the lineart and layer effects in different layers was a bad idea. However, if they're merged together, editing will be more difficult and messy. Might have to switch to an all-around messier art style for consistency's sake
  • Layer effects and clipping masks won’t work at all. This is a problem in places like the eyes where the iris needs to be clipped by the eyelid. However I think I saw a tutorial somewhere that explained how to create a similar effect to fix this.
  • No of deformer limit in free version. I could either reduce the number of movable elements in the full body, or downgrade to half a body. Usually in visual novels and even Virtual Youtubers, half bodies are more commonly in use

On top of this, I'm a bit confused about the polygon editing process that's the basis of the entire software. Hopefully, these tutorials will help me get a better understanding;

Basically Live2D is an aesthetic choice, and I'd be hard-pressed to say it was an essential gameplay mechanic. So I decided to put it on the back burner for now and work on the main flowchart of game progression.
