Girl’s Frontline
Girl’s Frontline is a strategy RPG, hero collector type mobile game developed by MicaTeam. The player controls ranks of characters, known ‘Tactical Dolls’, each representing a real-world firearm.
With this game, the player gets turn-based battles, item drops, equipment leveling, summoning and all the typical elements one would expect in this genre. However, this game stands out in the sea of strategy RPG mobile games by appealing to fans of anime with its striking illustrations (including some that actually move with the help of live2D) of anime girls or ‘waifus’ as affectionately dubbed by the community.
This genre of game is often repetitive and new games find it hard to break through the wall of pre-existing games. However, Girl’s Frontline has pushed their ‘gap moe’ concept of pairing up cute anime girls with firearms and even people who have no interest in strategy RPGs have taken an interest.
The Letter
The Letter is an interactive horror visual novel developed by Yangyang Mobile. The player reads through the story in different characters' perspectives and makes choices that determine the life and death of the characters.
Horror themed visual novels has been a popular niche for a long time. This visual novel in particular is heavy is both the visual aspect as well as the novel part. The fully-voiced lines only help a bit to ease the tedium of all the text.
However, where The Letter shines is in its multiple route divergences and animated illustrations for the scary climaxes. Though held back by the almost over-explaining the romance, friendship and drama, this game has had a lot of effort put into it in terms of art and animation, and it shows.
