1 RATIONALE: Intention

What concepts are you examining in your folio work? What do you want your Studio project to do?

Web development (my current specialty) has always been an amazing field to explore. I have focused on creating web pages that help people or companies to make their brand visible, offer their products or services, among others. However, I have always admired the creativity of those who are responsible for breaking the established patterns of a field as squared as this one can be.

Aesthetics, interaction, innovation; these are some of the terms that come to mind when looking at some of the most creative websites (such as those presented by Awwwards), which despite receiving much criticism for its focus on the same niche of designers, many of these elements could be successfully implemented in products for a broader audience, without sacrificing user experience.

This is why during Studio 1 I would like to develop skills in 3D modeling and animation, having a minimalist approach towards the generation of animations or loops with simple geometric elements (spheres, pendulums, cyclical animations), with the aim of integrating these 3D elements within web development to generate more interactive three-dimensional web environments, more attractive interfaces and allow the web field in general to see a greater opportunity in the innovation and use of these tools.

As key concepts, I would like to explore cyclical animations, element physics, and the relationship between three-dimensional interface-space.

2 CONTEXT: Field

What field/s does you're your work sit within?

My current professional fields are between web development, user interface (UI) and some user experience (UX). More than anything, I have been able to develop skills for web pages of companies and virtual shops; but with the focus that I want to give to Studio 1, I would like my work to focus on developing more interactive ways to consume information with the use of 3D models and animation.

Who are the outstanding practitioners/researchers/critics within this field/s?

In this exact moment, I am not very clear which people or agencies stand out in this field. My first references are in a different space which would be Instagram and in a linear medium such as videos. Accounts such as @wannerstedt, @extraweg, @lucas_zanotto, @ antonio3dee and @david_mcleod; they are some prominent designers and/or modelers who have allowed me to imagine possible uses of this type of animation within a web space.

Of course, with this I am not saying that it has not been implemented or that there is no 3D development on the web. Doing a small and quick search I have been able to find examples like:

3 METHOD: Conceptual, Technical, Craft & Management

How will the work you do in the studio support your intention?

Working during Studio 1 will allow me to gain the skills required to achieve my ultimate goal. The fact of starting with a 3D modeling program, going through the study of animations and being able to find tools or libraries that allow me to implement this type of interactions in a web environment will allow me to open up multiple possibilities in the development of more innovative web interfaces.

What do you hope to establish through an engagement with your folio work?

It is too early to say but the little I have known about people related to MAGI, there is still no strong development on the web field and I would like to take that step towards developing three-dimensional experiences in a web environment as it is a field highly desired by various people and companies. For this reason, I feel quite confident that by developing a good project of this type, it will allow me to grow professionally and, in addition to this, share with other people in the program who are interested in the subject.

4 PRODUCTION: Tools

How will you make this work, what is your process, when will you do what?

After the first 2 weeks, it is important to know that time is limited, so I would like to start using a 3D modeling program such as Cinema 4D, ZBrush or another that allows me to do what is required. This would be planned for week 3.

After learning more about some of these tools with their respective knowledge, I will set out to investigate web libraries that will allow me to include both modeling and 3D animations within a web space. This would be planned for week 4.

Finally, for week 5, which would be the delivery of the Folio, I would implement a small animation / interaction in a web environment.
