Folio 2 Plan 

RATIONALE: Intention

Yangkai Huang and I are going to continue working on our folio 1 project. We are going to develop this 2D game further. Same as in folio 1, I will mainly response for the work in unity game engine while Yangkai will work for art and animation.

By the end of week 6, we have finished the first two stages for boss battle. During week 7 to week 12, we would to design and build a third stage with a very different mechanic for player to battle with the boss. After finishing the boss battle, I am planning to start with level design and learn about unity lights and shader graph to develop my level.

Context: Field

To continue developing our boss battle scene, I will mainly study from some 2D role player action games. The boss battle design of video games Hollow Knight, Salt And Sanctuary, Ender Lilies: Quietus of Knight would be the main resource that I will learn from. Yangkai and I are planning to bring some 3D feelings into our 2D scene but we did not find too much examples or tutorials which have similar effects can be suitable for our idea. So, I expected that we will do a lot of exploration by ourselves to develop this part.

Method

In folio 2, I am going to do programming for boss AI, animation controls for boss, building up mechanic for the third stage of boss, designing and building the levels, Setting up unity lighting effects etc...

Production: Tools

Me and Yangkai will work separately in the first few weeks then form our work together to have a complete scene. The purpose for us to work separately in different fields is to make our work progress more effective. We want that our artwork (character, animation) can be joined into a playable scene with complete functions when it is finished. So, we are dividing the project into two parts including artwork and game engine work and each of us is picking one of them as our major work. We will keep connecting and discussing to make sure we are on the same direction, when our works are finished and came together, we hope to have a completely playable boss battle scene with good experience.

I will work on game engine as my major work in this project. Unity will be the main software for me to be used for project development.

In week 7, I am going to discuss with Yangkai about the concepts of the third stage of boss and then develop the third stage in unity. Also I will start to learn unity lights and shader graph.

In week 8, I will continue to work on boss battle development. To design and develop AI of our boss’s third stage would be the main work in this week. When Yangkai is finishing the art and animation, I will use them in unity to finish boss battle.

In week 9, I will begin to do level design. I will discuss with Yangkai about concepts and background and then use unity tile map to build up levels.

In week 10 - 11, The levels would be developed further in this week. More lighting and visual effects are considering to do.

In week 12, To balance the difficulty of boss battle, develop and adjust details by an overview, fix bugs.
