To create an Asian inspired cyberpunk scene for a game in a pixel art style
The scene will be a diverse Asian environment that is authentic and appealing to the cultures it is representing
The reason to create such a scene is to give a believable representation of Asian cultures for a game that both Western and Asian audiences can appreciate
The field of practice would be game environment art
The art style itself will be an evolved iteration of 16-bit era games as there will be post-processing which includes shaders, and dynamic lighting
As this is a city district for a game, I will have to ensure that the district serves as a hub for services, and shops
The city district itself will be referred to as “Little Asia”, meaning it will be taking many Asian cultures and condensing them into one district.
The practitioners who are known to be in the field include Ricardo Juchem and his work for General Interactive Co.’s Chinatown Detective Agency, the game ANNO: Mutationem, and Japanese-based pixel artist APO+.
The work in the studio which will support my intention will include:
Mood boarding of the scene
2D asset creation
Animation
Environment design
Post-processing + shaders
Week 1 - Moodboarding for Asian cultures and businesses
Week 1 - Receive consultation from those of particular Asian backgrounds
Week 2-3 - Create 2D assets on pixel art software (Aesprite or Piskel)
Week 3 - Creating palette swaps for assets (Adobe Photoshop)
Week 4 - Animation for holograms and/or adboards (Aesprite or Piskel)
Week 5- Adding the assets onto the base scene (Unity)
Week 6 - Lighting and Post-processing and shaders (Unity)
