RATIONALE: Intention
Coming fresh out of film school gave me a hard time to decide whether if I want to create something narrative or conceptual. This dilemma of choosing between creating an animated short film that is out of my reach yet very intrigued to do or a live-action short film CONSISTING of 3D modelling and composting of visual effects. After a careful consideration, I’ve made my decision that I will be making a simple 5-10 minutes live-action Sci-Fi short film.
Science fiction is a great gateway to invent and create
CONTEXT: Field
Though the story of the film is yet to be sharpened, the roughest detail that I can explain about the idea is:
“A woman trapped in an empty room tries to find a way to escape while being tortured mentally”
Or
“A persecutor tries to help a woman escape from being persecute”
The element of science fiction could be implemented in various ways in the persecutor’s computer/ persecuting device and/or inside the empty room. The theme and the atmosphere of this concept is inspired my the film Ex: Machina. A sleek and contemporary atmosphere with a suspenseful mood.
METHOD
Throughout the courses that I have attended sharpens my ideas and intention of my future plan. I’m hoping to explore, learn, and incorporate new ideas while also focusing on undertaking and sharpening my 3D Modelling and VFX Compositing abilities for post-production.
The process of making a short film could be similar to the process of making a short animation.
Pre-Production -> Production -> Post-Production
I will try to create mood boards, pitch deck, as well as a treatment while also focusing on conceptualising on which areas to use a green screen to key as well as 3D Modelling.
PRODUCTION: Tools
My main tools are always Premiere Pro, After Effects, Davinci Resolve, and Blender to edit, composite, and grade. I’ll also be learning every day to use other programs like Cinema 4D and Houdini.
