Theme

Play and Stillness.

Method

I allowed myself to PLAY more this time as at this point my studio approach has become clear and strong. I chose to use my phone as a medium instead of using after effects on a computer. I have been exploring parallax for a while now for my studio and it continues to fascinate me, so I decided to make a live wallpaper with same effect. There are a few apps online which give you this feature, I decided to build my own using one of them.

Context

For the idea of stillness, I was a bit confused as I struggle to bridge contemplation and interaction. I decided to settle with my own interpretation instead of questioning too much since I had to finish the exercise. My primary inspiration were a couple of websites that were fascinating me and made me want to try it.

Firewatch the game.

Bear Grylls

These designs and placement particularly connected a lot to my methodology. They also spoke to me in terms of the theme itself, being still an yet having some form of motion to it.

Response

A live wallpaper that I made by drawing and layerying two objects with transparent background on a solid background with z-axis offset in an app. It uses accelerometer and proximity sensor to create the motion. A perfect understanding of stillness in my opinion. My studio project follows somewhat same process.

What I learned out of this was how playing around with z-axis can make so much difference in the perspective instead of always depending on camera movements to make something look out of place. I believe this piece came out rather well in terms of understanding the theme and being able to relate it to my studio work. I can claim that I enjoyed this particular exercise the most as it felt very much in complaince with my studio work. It was also fun and playful.
