Theme Stillness
Context
For stillness, I think about the paint. The paints are good but they are stillness, where the digital painting could be animated. So I think about the difference between traditional painting and digital painting. I found that to animate the digital painting, the most common technique is to animate some of the elements in the painting. The idea, animate some of the elements in the painting inspired me to think about the scene in the theater stage. In the theater, they change some element on the stage between the scene to let the audience know the place of this scene is different. So I think I can create a small stage that I can change the element on the stage to create the scene I like.
Method
cardboard, watercolor kit, pvc board, sticky, papers
Cardboards are cut from the shoe box, and cut in the size I need.
Using the black color to color the cardboard of the frame.
Apply the paper on the cardboard in the background.
Build up the cardboard frame
Draw the element on the water color paper and cut the paper to follow the shape, where it needs a long bar at the bottom or at the top to hold the element in the frame.
Response
The frame has three layouts, which allows me to design the scene in front, middle and back to create a strong sense of presence by the depth. Both top and bottom can apply the sets, which mean there are six places that allow me to do the design in one scene.
I created two scenes. One only has the natural environment, which has sun, mountain, trees etc. The other scene is a food counter.
Reflection
The elements of the scene are easy to create, as long as you have the idea about what you want in the scene. Also, you can add new things anytime. To create my own stage is really interesting, because I can create and swap my favorite element on the stage any time.
