Theme Nature

Context

This week's topic is nature. There are many works shown in class talking about the tree, forest and bush. Although trees are part of nature, nature is more than trees. So I try to jump out from the trees' idea, looking for other elements about nature. For this week, I had presented several related works about nature in class, which are all about the liquid. So I browse the content about liquid. There are two videos in vimeo that give me ideas.

https://vimeo.com/191957372  This is a video about beers and water. This video introduces how the water becomes the beer. The moment that gives me an idea is the view of beers. The beers contain a lot of bubbles and those bubbles are fascinating because those bubbles move irregularly, which creates an interesting view randomly.

https://vimeo.com/134108914 This video is about the shape of water. This is hard to define the shape of water because it can be any shape. The factor that affects the shape of water is the force. Water is free. It can be limited by anything while it can not be limited. It is very fascinating to learn about the shape of water under nature, which gives me a lot of ideas about graphic design. 

Based on these two videos and the feedback from Matt about the work I share, I want to see the view about what happens underwater when I wash my brush for watercolor. 

Method

Phone, waterproof case, brush, watercolor kit, water

• Apply the waterproof case so that I can use the phone to record underwater.

• Set the phone in a good position underwater.

• Use watercolor kit and brush to create beautiful color drop into the water

Response     

I record the view underwater about how the color moves and how the different colors mix together. This is a very interesting experience to see what happens underwater, where normally I can only see the color of water above water. The color changes because the colors are moving under the water and they mix together at the end. There are many factors that affect how the color moves under the water, while providing a unique view of color.

Reflection

The most time costing is to take the video. When I first started to record, I found that the view of the phone was not good. I could not see the screen of the phone when recording because the phone is set underwater. The first record looks weird, since it only records half of the effect. Then I think about how I can record this, what can I change for a better record. I tried several times to find the sweet spot of the position of the phone. Also, because of the waterproof case, the video seen is not so clear. I have tried to fix this problem but there is not a good solution for this.
