[ADP08] Play and abstraction

Theme Abstraction

Context

Abstraction is about the imagination of humans. Sometimes people may look at the cloud and think the cloud looks like sometime, which is an abstraction activity. There is another similar activity, which is the constellation. There are many constellations. However, the combination of the star and the line might not give you a sense of constellations. The game, connect the dots, has the similar mechanism to the constellation. Both of them are the imagination of connecting the dots. The game, connect the dots only has the limited number of dots and the dots are sorted, so the player only needs to follow the number and connect each dot. But the stars in the sky are countless, there is no limit between each star. So for the constellation, it really requires imagination.  So I want to create a unlimit connect the dots game to see how our imagination works.

Method

Adobe Illustrator

Create a dot, and copy a few, then using transform function to randomly copy the dots until we have enough dots on the canvas. Then create a new layout, and use the pen tool to line the dots together based on the shape I spot. The shape could be like an animal, letter, or anything that exists in nature.

Response & Reflection     

The picture is the result of my. At the beginning of the game, it is really hard to find a starting point. It is also difficult to find a shape which is highly likely to be the actual item. It requires the player to explore the imagination again and again, looking for a highly abstraction ability. This game is really interesting, which can also help you to train the ability of imagination.
