Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

Theme:
In response to the theme of play and nature, I collected some small objects (leaves, falling flowers, shells and conch shells, etc.) in the park and seaside, and used these to do some experiments on particle systems in unity

Context:
In the beginning, I didn't have a lot of ideas about play and nature. But when I was walking around outside looking for some inspiration, I was quickly drawn to the tiny seashells by the sea.
It reminds me of my childhood experiences, as a boy growing up by the beach, I had two favorite activities on the beach: picking up shells and catching crabs. I don't know why, but they just give me an inexplicable sense of satisfaction, and I even imagine some of the shells with their peculiar shapes as some kind of undiscovered treasure, or the process of catching a crab as a sacred adventure. I believe this experience is not unique and should be experienced by most children.
I learned later that maybe these simple games (or activities?) simulated the gathering and hunting activities of humans in ancient times, which is why I felt that visceral pleasure and satisfaction.
In Ezlika Ghazali's paper 'Exploring player behavior and motivations to continue playing Pokémon GO', he discusses how the collection system affects player behavior, which is a big reason why the Pokémon series appeals to so many people.
And I just recently started learning about particle systems in Unity, so I plan to use particle systems to simulate the movement of these small objects in their natural environment.

Method:
Collect any small objects of interest outdoors
Take pictures and crop them with PS
Use them to do some experiments with particle systems in Unity

Reflection:
The final result looked a bit silly, probably because I was just starting out and wasn't technically competent enough.
But I love my process of finding and collecting these little things in nature. This gave me some inspiration: to some extent, the item system and achievement system in many games is the simulation of the human collecting instinct. So it's not hard to explain why hardcore players of all genres are so obsessed with collecting full achievements.
In this regard, we are not fundamentally different from our Homo sapiens ancestors thousands of years ago. Maybe I should learn some psychology about human collecting behavior in the future and try to see if it can be related to the design of the item and achievement system in the game.
