This week, I begun doing some rough animation tests. I also made illustrations to represent the states that the creatures are in.
My original vision for the vertical slice included rough animations (2-3 fps) for all states for every creature. Since I had no prior experience with 2D animation, I booked a consultation with Evans for guidance and to discuss my current drafts. A lot of fundamental animation principles were taught to me and lots of issues were spotted. Although solutions were provided, I came to the realisation that I needed a lot more research and pratice before a viable outcome could be achieved. The scale of this animations task proved impossible due to both time and skill restraints. A 'draft' GIF is attached to showcase my problematic 2D animation skills.
To improvise, I sought refuge in Illustrations. The new vision included 1 frame illustration for each state of every creature, which would definitely be a more achievable goal. This way, I could guarantee to have visual placeholders to show states of the creatures to players. This would be completed for every creature which would make the vertical slice feel more completed as a whole.
