Theme
In responds to this week's theme play and abstraction, I designed abstract posters for the famous Melbourne neighborhood - Fitzroy.
Context
Abstraction represents the extraction of the inner from the observed object, beyond the pursuit of what is already presented Pamela, T (2003). In this week's entry, I've simplified the entire complex map of Fitzroy by extracting the important parts of it. We all know that Fitzroy is known for its cultural and artistic activities. Therefore, I marked the busy commercial and cultural entertainment areas with bright warm colors, and cool colors to indicate out-of-the-way areas such as factories. The related works are created by Riccardo Guasco, who is an illustrator whose work has been influenced by movements such as Cubism and Futurism, as well as by the insights into shape and form of artists such as Picasso and Munari.
Methods
I used adobe illustration to trace the map of Fitzroy and make deletions to it. Next, I made the simplified map in adobe photo in the form of a poster to make it more ornamental.
Reflection
This week's piece is a good reflection of the symbolic play. Rectangles of different sizes represent neighborhoods and houses, while different colors indicate prosperity and different geographical characteristics. If it appears as an advertisement or poster, people will easily get the characteristics and be impressed visually.
