I'm exploring a new narrative form. That is to make a story through the imagination of the audience. Everyone in this set of avatars has their own exaggerated expressions. I hope to guide the visitors through these expressions so that the scenes and stories can emerge in the visitors' minds.
I used drawing characters to express my concept. Visitors can directly perceive some information through the pictures, including the expressions of the characters and the colours of the pictures. These picture information are very guiding to the visitors. Visitors can understand the emotional value of the characters from the colours. With this information, different character backgrounds/information can be generated in the visitor's mind.
My inspiration came from Akira Kurosawa; he was a director and painter. He often draws preliminary concept maps with a paintbrush. These concept maps guide his crew. Let his crew group understand the plot of what happened in this scene (Leleu, 2021). The result is a way that makes the crew work more uniformly. I learned from Kurosawa's way. a single picture can also be a new narrative. So I drew different expressions of different characters and explored the way of telling the story with the details of the picture.
About reflection firstly, I found that many expressions have similar facial states, such as doubt and surprise. Doubt and surprise both frown. Therefore, in order to distinguish these two expressions, the environment should also be connected. So I can add background images to make this narrative more accurate. The second point I found is that what can reflect the narrative is the expression also include the sight of the person, and the sight can sometimes reflect a person's purpose. For example, in Akira Kurosawa's painting of two figures. I could see in the eyes of the man in the green suit that there was a target of his outside the screen. So I wondered if he was masquerading as a street performer and actually inspecting monitor someone.
