Context
“Open to interpretation, just stay related to your studio project.” were our instructions for this task. I, personally, took this to mean where my project stands at today in its progress.
Method
Through out this semester, for I have been using Character, Place and Simulation’s class tasks as a means to contribute to the makings of my major studio project, now titled Grandma’s. I have created within Unity a prototype of my game, and included some ‘info panels and samples’ of each week’s class task as a digital archive.
Response
My response(s) are the two versions of my game’s build, one for Mac and the other for Windows PC. (Submitted via the Canvas RMIT portal).
Theme: Found Objects
[1st Attempt]
This task was originally to take three ordinary ‘objects’ and use them in an unconventional way. For this, I recorded my splashing in a full sink, tossing keys, sitting on a couch and varying types of footsteps.
Keeping it related to my major project for MAGI Studio, I initially lead with the raw audio file of the sink splashing, seeking to clean and edit it to become the player’s foley when swimming in the dam, at Grandma’s Farm.
Method
Using the voice recorder app on my iPhone7, I recorded 'foley' audio of myself splashing around in a full soapy sink. From here the raw audio file was 'cleaned' and edited within Adobe Audition to remove echos and static noise. Once all unwanted audio was removed from the file, still using Adobe Audition, I sliced two sections of audio out of the cleaned file to create two more seperate audio files; FastSwim.wav and GentleSwim.wav
Response
Uncertain if the two audio files created would be presentable quality, I originally didn’t upload them at the time of submission in week three. However, they can now be heard as they have been recently added to the first submission.
[2nd Attempt]
Method: Using a H1n audio recorder from the RMIT digital library, I recorded a series of 'foley' audio of myself walking around on different surfaces; Gravel, Dry Grass and Dirt. From here each raw audio file was 'cleaned' and edited within Adobe Audition. From here rather than have a sigle set of 'footsteps', I wished to make something sound like it had more than two feet by overlapping.
Context: In relation to my major project for MAGI Studio, the footstep foley is to be used for my non player character movements, and to give the player more of a sense of a living atmosphere
Response: The uploaded audio file, this needs work. It is not convincing-yet.
Theme: Observational Practices
Method: Audio Digital Recording of my travels in and around RMIT building 7, through the iPhone voice recorder app.
Context: In relation to my major project for MAGI Studio, the research into accessability and the development of a videogame for the visually impaired. What is it in audio that 'makes' a space when visuals are removed?
Response: The uploaded audio file, and the relisation that what we see is not necessarily what we hear.
