Running game by using Waist

Theme: Play & Body

Context:

This idea comes from a mini game in Ring fit Adventure it is also an extension of what I have done in last project (In Play & Force I tried to simulate real force in game). I would like to explore how mouse can do in somatosensory game. That’s the reason I made this experimental game.

Method:

Wireless mouse, Unity, Box

Response:

From the experience of the project in Play and Force, I calculate the offset of mouse movement to control my character move left and right. Then I found a box which has enough space so that mouse can move directly left and right. Finally build this simple running game and control it by my waist.

Reflection:

The PLAY in this project is still about physical play and Interact with real things to control digital object. It also about alternative game controllers – Waist.

Body is a very interesting theme since somatosensory game is very popular in recent years especially Switch and Joy-con came out. While it is hard to get those sensors for me. But I still want try how could I simulate those sensors by using objects I have.

During this experimental I also explored how body control can affects on emotion since there’s many research on this field. Compare with control by mouse, body control is far harder. But it is very funny and fun in progress. I have laughed many times during recording this video. This won’t happened if I used mouse.

PS: I disabled game over script and this is why the game continue after I hit obstacle.
