A 2D platform jumping game.

Theme: Play & Place

Context:

This idea comes from a game that I used to kill boring time in travel when I was a child.

There’s no phone or any digital equipment at that time and it is very boring in bus or car. The only thing I can do was looking outside. I always image there’s a character jumping between buildings and trees and avoiding enemies’ attack. It not really playable but helps me on killing boring time at that time.

Method:

Unity. Phone.

Response:

The PLACE in this work is the buildings outside my apartment. While it could be everywhere outside. All the views could become a 2D platform jumping game.

To make this game, I took this photo from my home and make it as a game in Unity.

Reflection:

This theme is really hard in this time since we can’t go outside and play something in real world.

The PLAY in this work is just play the game. While everyone can play it in their brain/imaging.

Everyone can play this game in everywhere rather than play it in digital world.

I have hosted some outside activities in past 4-5 years and my plan was playing game around city. So I spent a lot of time thinking how to make something related to place but inside home and single player.

I took some photos inside my home and tried to find something playable but failed. Then I looked outside and tried to find some inspirations and at that time, this idea came into my brain.

Control:

AD - Move left and right

S - Leave from platform

W - Climb pole

Space - Jump

E - Pick up pole

Q - Put down pole
