Reflective Text

This work examines the idea of character shape, movement and form.

By using stop motion, I was able to experiment with how the Airpods move across the screen. One Airpod moved like a snake and the other moved on two legs.

This work is similar to the work of Marnik Loysen, Brunch (2022). This short, stop motion animation explores what it’s like to be a millennial in the twenty first century. Throughout the short film the main character turns into a snowflake (a metaphor for someone who is overly sensitive). The snowflake walks my rocking side to side, rather than bending or taking on a new shape. This is what gave me inspiration for the movements of my Airpod characters.

By examining different ways the Airpods could move, I reflected on the interesting juxtaposition of the hard, shiny plastic Airpods, and the soft, malleable clay coming together to create a character. The movements, particularly towards the end of my animation, were not as smooth as they should be. Moving forward I will take additional photos to create a smoother looking animation.
